Elmo Slammed Over Bad Bunny Shout-Out: ‘Needs To Be Canceled’

Sesame Street’s Elmo was impressed with Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX Halftime performance and posted about the same on X. However, the post has received some major backlash from some users, who flooded the comment section with harsh criticism.

Elmo faces trolling over Bad Bunny shout-out

On Sunday, February 8, Bad Bunny headlined the 2026 Super Bowl LX Halftime Show with a nearly 14-minute performance. Hours after the performance, the official X account of Elmo, a prominent character from Sesame Street, praised Bad Bunny on the platform. The post stated, “That Bunny was AMAZING. Elmo thinks he should be called Good Bunny! Elmo loves you, Mr. Good Bunny!”

The post has gone viral and has more than 6.4 million views at the moment of writing. However, the post has also garnered a massive backlash. Some users have called out Elmo for praising the Puerto Rican rapper.

Nick Adams, a writer and founder, responded to the post, writing, “Elmo needs a wellness check.”

Meanwhile, another user questioned if Elmo, a character from a kids’ show, should be talking about a rapper who uses explicit language in his music. The user wrote, “This is ok for young adults and kids? So it is ok for someone that raps about and promotes sex, partying, and perreo/explicit sexual content, clubbing, dancing (especially reggaeton’s signature “perreo”), attraction to women, casual hookups, hedonism and drug use as anywhere close to good??”

Another said, “Dude sings profane lyrics about drugs and having sex with random women, but it’s in Spanish, so DiVeRsItY or whatever.”

The backlash stems from the “NUEVAYoL” singer’s past comments about the US President Donald J. Trump’s anti-immigration policies. The musician reportedly avoided touring in the United States, saying, “ICE could be outside (my concert)” (via USA Today). Since then, President Trump and his supporters have raised their voices against the decision to allow him to perform at the 2026 Super Bowl.

After the Halftime Show concluded, President Trump criticized the performance on Truth Social. A part of his post stated, “The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER!”
