Peacemaker Season 2 Premiere Suggests Jared Leto’s Joker’s DCU Fate Is Sealed

Peacemaker Season 2 recently took a subtle jab at Jared Leto, apparently hinting at his fate as Joker in the rebooted DC. Leto portrayed the role of the Joker in the 2016 movie Suicide Squad and the 2021 movie Justice League, directed by Zack Snyder. However, since the new DCU has come into place, there has been no news regarding Leto’s character’s future in the DC universe.

Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 1 hints Jared Leto’s turn as the Joker is over

Recently, a gag in Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 1 caught the attention of fans as it seemingly went on to target Jared Leto, who previously played the Joker in the DCEU. Additionally, the joke led fans to think that it was a hint at Jared Leto’s future as the Joker in DC.

In a scene in the first episode, John Cena’s character, Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker, is having a chat with Emilia Harcourt, who had destroyed a car’s dashboard with her punches. Chris, referring to the cars and Leto’s music band 30 Seconds to Mars, stated, “The last time I was in that car, it was playing Spin Doctors or Thirty Seconds to Mars or some s—. I was gonna kick its a– then, but you two seem like you were on good terms.” Harcourt then replied, “I am not on good terms with Thirty Seconds to Mars — how dare you.”

Their conversation then continued in the post-credits scene of the episode, where Harcourt conveyed, “You can’t be looping Spin Doctors in with Thirty Seconds to Mars. Spin Doctors: so good!” To this, Smith took a dig at Leo’s band and said, “Jeez, anyone’s better than Thirty Seconds to Mars. That garage band I was in for two seconds is better than Thirty Seconds to Mars.”

This joke about Leto’s band in a series created by James Gunn, who is the co-CEO of DC, has sparked speculations among fans that the former’s Joker will not return in the DCU.

In 2021, Gunn told The New York Times why he didn’t bring Leto’s Joker in his Suicide Squad movie. He said, “He wouldn’t be helpful in that type of war situation.”
