Peacemaker Fan Theory Teases How Rick Flag Could Return Permanently in DCU

A new fan theory has suggested that Rick Flag Jr. could return to the DCU through Peacemaker Season 2. Rick Flag Jr, played by Joel Kinnaman, last appeared in the DCEU movie The Suicide Squad in 2021. However, he was killed by John Cena’s character, Peacemaker, in the film. With the new DCU now in motion, fans have been wondering whether the beloved character could return in the new universe.

Peacemaker fan suggests how Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag can be back in DCU

Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 3, “Another Rick Up My Sleeve,” saw the return of Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag Jr., and a fan has theorized that the character could enter the DCU by crossing dimensions at the end of Season 2.

In the new episode, Peacemaker visits an alternate dimension and tries to pursue Emilia Harcourt there. However, as he enters A.R.G.U.S. in the alternate dimension, viewers get a surprise appearance from none other than Rick Flag Jr., who is alive in that dimension.

Seeing Flag Jr. in front of him freaks Peacemaker out, as he had brutally killed him in his own dimension. Additionally, it is revealed that Harcourt is seeing Flag Jr.

Commenting on this scene, a fan on X (formerly Twitter) named Thee Winter Witch suggested that Flag Jr could enter the DCU by the end of Peacemaker. The user noted, “If Peacemaker doesn’t end with a Rick Flag Jr. rejoining the main DCU I’m gonna be so mad.” However, whether Kinnaman will enter the main continuity of the new DCU or not has not been confirmed by James Gunn yet.

While talking to ScreenRant in October 2024 about his possible return in Peacemaker Season 2, Kinnaman said, “I don’t know what to say. That’s ridiculous. I would never. I would never be on a show like that. It’s not what I do. It’s not what I do.” So it’s possible that the character’s future in the franchise is being kept under wraps.
