John Cena Credits Hair Transplant For Changing ‘The Course of His Life’

John Cena is opening up about his personal life and physical transformation as he nears retirement from WWE. In a new cover story, the wrestler-turned-actor discusses his recent hair transplant and shifting priorities after 23 years in the ring. He also talks about returning to TV in Peacemaker Season 2.

Here’s what he said about the procedure, why he did it, and its impact on his career.

John Cena talks about his hair transplant

John Cena opened up about his hair transplant in a new cover story for People, where he reflected on aging, his WWE retirement, and personal growth.

The 48-year-old wrestler-actor revealed he underwent the procedure in November 2024 after fans noticed his hair loss. “As I was trying to hide my hair loss, the audience was bringing it to light,” Cena said. “I saw their signs that said ‘The bald John Cena.’” He added, “They pushed me into going to see what my options were.”

Cena shared that he now follows a hair care routine that includes red-light therapy, minoxidil, vitamins, shampoo, and conditioner. “I hate the fact that if there wasn’t so much shame around it, I’d have gotten it done 10 years ago,” he said. “I thought I was alone, but seven or eight out of 10 [men] suffer from thinning or baldness.”

Explaining the procedure, he said, “They don’t do anything except move your hair, one by one, from one area to another.” Cena also said the change positively affected him, stating, “It completely changed the course of my life.” He emphasized how the new hairstyle even helped expand his acting range. “A different hairstyle can identify a part that can get me more work, do the thing I love to do,” he said.

Outside of the hair transplant, Cena plans to retire from WWE by the end of 2025. He has been with the company for 23 years and announced his farewell tour last year. “My health and my dedication to my partner are the tip of my spear in life right now,” he said.

Cena returns as Peacemaker in season 2 of the HBO Max series on August 21. He described the show as “more than just action. It’s a love story. It’s a workplace comedy.”
