House Republicans are up in arms over Bad Bunny‘s Super Bowl halftime show, with Rep. Andy Ogles leading the charge. The Tennessee congressman has called for a formal congressional inquiry into the broadcasting partners, citing indecency in the performance. He condemned the set as “pure smut“, deeming it unfit for broadcast on public airwaves due to its explicit content.
Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl set labeled ‘smut’ by Republicans
Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show has sparked controversy, with some Republicans labeling it “pure smut” and calling for investigations into the NFL and NBC.
Ogles condemned the performance, citing “overtly sexualized movements, including widespread twerking, grinding, pelvic thrusts and other sexually suggestive conduct” as part of the reason for his call for investigation.
Meanwhile, Rep. Mark Alford drew a comparison between Bad Bunny’s halftime show and the infamous 2004 Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction. He suggested the recent performance could be even more egregious.
Rep. Andy Ogles has formally requested a congressional inquiry into the NFL and NBC over Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show. In a letter to the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Ogles argued that the performance featured explicit displays of sexual acts. He’s urging the Committee to investigate, stating that “American culture will not be mocked or corrupted without consequence”.
Backing Ogles’ claim, Rep. Mark Alford has announced that he and his colleagues in the House of Representatives have initiated an investigation into Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show.
The Republican congressman from Missouri further mentioned Turning Point USA’s alternative halftime show, featuring Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett, as a response to criticism of Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl performance by President Donald Trump and others.
Donald Trump slammed the Super Bowl halftime show, calling it “absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER!” and “an affront to the Greatness of America”.
However, despite his criticism, the show drew a massive audience of over 128 million viewers.
