Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested following an alleged assault involving a ride-share driver in Hollywood, according to police. The incident reportedly took place early Monday and is currently under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.

According to the LAPD, officers responded to a reported assault at approximately 12:15 a.m. PST at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Hollywood. Police reportedly said Sutherland entered a ride-share vehicle and was involved in an altercation with the driver.
In a statement shared by LAPD officer Kevin Terzes, authorities said, “The investigation determined that the suspect, later identified as Kiefer Sutherland, entered a rideshare vehicle, physically assaulted the driver (the victim), and made criminal threats toward the victim” (via NBC News).
Police confirmed that the victim did not need any medical treatment at the scene. Sutherland was reportedly arrested somewhere around 4 a.m. PST and later released after posting a $50,000 bond around seven hours later. He was booked on an unspecified felony charge. The actor is scheduled to appear in court on February 2, 2026.
The actor has faced legal issues in the past. In 2007, he spent 48 days in jail for driving under the influence. He was also arrested on an assault charge in 2009, though that case was later dropped. His most recent prior arrest occurred in 2020 following an illegal U-turn in Hollywood (via BBC).
Sutherland is widely known for his work in film and television, particularly for playing counterterrorism agent Jack Bauer on Fox’s 24 and serving as a fictional U.S. president in Designated Survivor. He has been a prominent celebrity in the entertainment industry since the 1980s and is the son of the late actor Donald Sutherland.
