Kiefer Sutherland, who portrays Jack Bauer in all seasons of Fox’s action drama series 24 and associated projects, gave a promising update on whether his character’s story will continue. 24 originally aired for eight seasons between 2001 and 2010. In 2008, the TV film 24: Redemption came out on Fox. In 2014, the limited series 24: Live Another Day aired on the same network.
Kiefer Sutherland says a ‘really good’ script has been written to take 24 story forward
Sutherland recently teased Jack Bauer’s return during an interview with Montreal Now’s Aaron Rand. The actor revealed that 24 showrunner and executive producer Howard Gordon has penned a “really good” script. “Gordon has come up with an idea that I like,” Sutherland said. “Before, the material had not been written, so I would have to say, ‘I’m not the one that’s in the way.’ [But] something has been written. I think it’s really good. I think it’s really strong,” he further stated.
The Juror #2 star went on to explain that a project set in the fictional universe of 24 now has new challenges to navigate because the rights have changed hands. “24 was originally with Fox,” Sutherland elaborated. “Now it’s owned by Disney because of what Fox has sold off, and so it has to go through different channels before it’s either approved or disapproved. Like everybody else, it’s something I would really like to do. I would like to close that story. It was left kind of wide open. So, fingers crossed…We’ve taken some considerable steps forward,” he revealed.
It’s unclear whether the script is for 24 Season 10, created as a limited series like Live Another Day, or a TV film like Redemption. It could also be the 24 film that Imagine Entertainment co-founder Brian Grazer hinted at last year. At the time, the reports stated that it was unclear whether Sutherland would return as Jack in this project. Notably, Imagine Entertainment is one of the production companies behind 24.
