Gracie Abrams‘ father, J.J. Abrams, reportedly approves of her relationship with “Normal People” star Paul Mescal. Abrams and Mescal were first rumoured to be dating in 2024. Although the couple went Instagram official in July last year, they have mostly kept their relationship details out of the public eye.
Gracie Abrams and Paul Mescal find it challenging to find time, claims source
A source recently told Star that Gracie Abrams and Paul Mescal plan to keep their long-distance relationship going. However, their busy schedules mean they don’t get to spend much time together. The source said the couple “are an awesome physical match with one another, and they do have pretty similar personalities, too.”
The insider continued, “They’ve both worked very hard to get where they are, and they’re both extremely ambitious to accomplish more.” They told the outlet that the stars are “so busy and in-demand” that they “struggle to find personal time together.”
The Grammy-nominated songstress has allegedly adapted to the fact that their relationship is long-distance, and her family, including her father, has been “supportive and welcoming to Mescal.” The source also said that while there is still a lot Abrams wants to achieve on her own, her boyfriend’s “long-term intentions” are unclear.
During an interview with Rolling Stone in September 2025, Mescal addressed the reason he and Abrams decided to make their relationship public. He said, “I don’t know how to answer that. I actually do have an answer, but everything to do with that is deeply precious to me and I don’t want to.… This isn’t … I don’t really … umm … I want to protect those things fundamentally.”
Both Mescal and Abrams have been on a hot career streak lately. Last year, the “Mess It Up” singer earned her first Grammy nomination in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category for the song “Us,” on which she collaborated with Taylor Swift. Mescal, on the other hand, appeared in the critically acclaimed films “The History of Sound” and “Hamnet” last year.
