Powerball Winner’s Mistake Led to $410 Million Lottery Payout

The second Powerball winner has finally been found, but the Texas lottery player would not have won if he didn’t make an unusual mistake. The lucky winner has claimed his share of the $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot, the second largest in Powerball and U.S. lottery history, for the September 6 drawing. The first co-winner in Missouri had since come forward. A couple of fortunate moments led the Texas player, known anonymously as the Seven Bridges Revocable Trust, to choose the winning numbers, earning him a prize pot of over $410 million.

Texas lottery player chose “meaningful” numbers

A representative of the trust shared the story about how the winner secured the largest jackpot ever for the Texas Lottery. While the player would typically choose random numbers when purchasing a ticket, they opted instead “to choose numbers that were meaning to them.”

However, the player had made a mistake, realizing only after buying the ticket that one of the numbers was not what was they originally intended. But after the winning numbers were announced (Powerball 17, 11, 23, 44, 61, 62), the player checked the ticket while driving to Church in the morning and realized that all the numbers matched. Surprised, they had to pull over so that they could check the ticket several times before they put the ticket in the glovebox.

“This is a moment of gratitude for us, a blessing we plan to enjoy and share with those who are special to us and who serve our community,” the winner shared in a statement. “We ask for privacy as we look forward to enjoying our lives together as a family. God bless Texas.”

The winning ticket was purchased from a Big’s 103, a chain that will be given a $250,000 bonus as the seller of the ticket.

This Powerball jackpot started on June 2 at $20 million, but swelled to $1.8 billion after 42 drawings with no winner.
