Lottery Winner Can Finally Go on a Honeymoon After Waiting Over 30 Years

A lottery winner, Cheryl Bach of Holly Springs, North Carolina, will finally be able to go on a honeymoon after claiming the top $1 million prize on a scratcher. The lucky woman purchased a $50 ticket for the $10 Million Spectacular at a Harris Teeter grocery store in Raleigh, a scratcher where players can win the top prizes of $100,000, $1 million, and $10 million. And to her surprise, the ticket had the numbers to win one of the $1 million prizes. Here’s how she hopes to spend the jackpot with her husband.

North Carolina woman says husband didn’t believe she won at first

Bach explained that when she saw her winning ticket, she “had to put my glasses on to make sure I was seeing it right,” according to a October 13 press release by the North Carolina Education Lottery.

In shock, Bach said she was “shaking for the rest of the day.” Her husband of 31 years, also in disbelief, took several minutes to absorb what happened after he was told the news on the phone and didn’t believe she won until Bach sent him a picture of the ticket as proof.

After heading to the lottery headquarters on Friday, October 10, Bach made the decision on whether to take an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or accept a lump sum of $600,000. She decided to take the second option, which comes to just over $430,000 after paying the required state and federal tax withholdings.

As for how she will spend the large sum of money, she plans “to take a vacation with my husband that will finally be our honeymoon,” finally fulfilling some dreams that they had postponed for three decades. However, she isn’t yet certain where they will be going yet. The couple will also spend a portion of the winnings on paying some bills.

A lottery winner in Michigan thought that the phone call she received was a scam at first, while another winner regrets quitting his job after spending his prize money on parties.
