In a 2024 interview with the Los Angeles Times, Ed Kelce discussed several aspects of being around someone as popular as Taylor Swift. In this interview, he also detailed an interaction between Swift and his late girlfriend, Maureen Maguire. During this time, Taylor Swift was taking a photo with Ed, and Maureen jokingly remarked, “Hey! That’s my boyfriend,” leading Taylor to change her pose.
In a separate interview with Audacy’s 92.3 The Fan, Ed recalled how Maguire was the one to point out to him that meeting Taylor Swift was a big deal. This happened when they met her for the first time after Travis Kelce started dating Taylor Swift.
“I met Taylor at Travis’ house. When Travis has a lot of friends coming into town to the game, everyone meets at his house, although he’s not there because he’s sequestered with the team,” he recalled in the interview. “Everyone meets at the house, and they have a shuttle that comes [to] pick everyone up and take them to the game. At any given home game, you could end up with 20 people there.”
He continued, “Taylor walks in with a security guy, and I look at her, and I say [to my girlfriend], ‘Oh my God, I know this kid, but I don’t know what her name is.’ Jeez, you know, like a real idiot.” But then Maureen was there to guide him. She told him, “You don’t know her? This is Taylor Swift, you idiot.”
With Maureen Maguire’s passing, this has become a much-discussed memory of her interaction with Taylor Swift. Maureen Maguire passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on August 1, 2025.
