What Did Gavin Adcock Say About Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter?

Gavin Adcock appears to have a strong opinion on Beyoncé‘s foray into country music with her 2024 studio album, Cowboy Carter. The “Crazy in Love” singer received widespread acclaim for the album, which was a massive hit and won several awards, including Grammys.

Adcock recently criticized Beyoncé during a live performance, the video of which has gone viral. “You can tell her [Beyoncé] we’re coming for her f——- a–,” Adcock said. “That s— ain’t country music, and it ain’t ever been country music, and it ain’t gonna be country music,” he added.

The video has gained massive traction across various social media platforms, and Adcock has since reiterated his views in an Instagram video captioned “It just ain’t country.”

In the video, Adcock, 26, appeared to be adding some context to his earlier comment. “I’mma go ahead and clear this up. When I was a little kid, my mama was blasting some Beyoncé in the car,” he said. “I’ve heard a ton of Beyoncé songs, and I actually remember her Super Bowl halftime show being pretty kick a– back in the day. But I really don’t believe that her album should be labeled as country music,” he further stated.

According to Adcock, Cowboy Carter doesn’t “sound” or “feel” like country music. He added, “And I just don’t think that people that have dedicated their whole lives to this genre and this lifestyle should have to compete or watch that album just stay at the top just because she’s Beyoncé.”

Cowboy Carter topped several charts across the globe upon its release, including the U.S. Billboard 200 and U.S. Top Country Albums (Billboard). It later claimed the top spot on lists such as Business Insider’s Best Albums of 2024, the Hollywood Reporter’s 10 Best Albums of 2024, and Best Albums of 2024: People Picks the Top 10.

Notably, Adcock is a rising country music star and singer whose third full-length album, Own Worst Enemy, comes out in August 2025.
