Marvel Rumor Reveals The Sentry Original Backstory in Thunderbolts*

Speculation is growing about Bob and Sentry’s origin story in Thunderbolts*. Reports reveal their ties to Valentina’s program, where memory loss and manipulation shaped their involvement. Yet, details remain unclear, leaving questions about how deeply their connection runs.

Thunderbolts*’ initial script had a different origin story for Sentry

According to reports, “Bob was part of a strike force before he signed up for that progam of Valentina’s. He lossed (lost) his memory due to the drugs. Valentina would go on to tell him that before all of it, he used to kill for the US. More drugs would’ve been the push that brought out the void.” This detail highlights how Valentina manipulated Bob’s past to integrate him into her plans.

Additional context was provided through interviews and scripts linked to Thunderbolts. Screenwriter Eric Pearson told The Hollywood Reporter, “When I saw the first cut, the biggest change was Taskmaster taking that shot, and I was shocked. In my drafts, Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster lived out the movie, and she had a bit of a subplot with Ava/Ghost. They’d both been raised in labs, and Ava big-sistered her into how to break free and be her own person.” This shows how memory issues were a recurring theme across Valentina’s recruits.

Pearson added that Taskmaster’s damaged memory influenced her interactions: “‘On the comedy side, she was struggling with her own memory-loss stuff, and there was a gag where she just kept restarting the fight and forgetting that they had made up and become friends.’”

Similarly, Daniel Richtman explained, “Antonia has memory problems; she has a broken memory because her mind was damaged and rebuilt. So she needs reminders. Ava helps her keep track of things and through this they develop a close friendship.”

Richtman also shared Ava’s role beyond Valentina’s control. “Bill Foster (Laurence Fishburne) has cancer and she takes care of him. She also develops a close friendship with Taskmaster over their shared trauma.” Director Jake Schreier, while discussing Thunderbolts*, reflected on these interconnected storylines as part of Valentina’s team-building narrative across the film’s characters.

This shows Bob and Sentry’s connection to Valentina through manipulation, memory loss, and recruitment into her program alongside Taskmaster and Ghost.
