King Charles & Princess Diana Cried the Night Before Their Wedding, Says Expert

King Charles and Princess Diana reportedly “cried” the night before their wedding for their respective reasons. A royal expert unpacked the events in the lead-up to their nuptials, revealing that they each had an emotional time accepting their marriage. Charles allegedly teared up because he still had feelings for his then-ex-girlfriend, Camilla, but managed to include her in the ceremony. Meanwhile, Diana, who had been reluctant about tying the knot, learned that it was too late to back out.

King Charles and Princess Diana were reluctant to marry each other, says expert

A royal expert told Fox News Digital that King Charles and Princess Diana were reluctant to marry before their wedding day. Ian Pelham Turner alleged that he had an emotional night the day before their nuptials because he was still in love with his then-ex-girlfriend, Camilla. In fact, both Charles and Diana, who had been hesitant about tying the knot, cried for their own reasons. The duo tied the knot on July 29, 1981.

Turner claimed that the late royal had cold feet before her wedding to Charles, but her sister told her that “it was too late.” Apparently, it was well beyond backing out, as the tea towels with their joint images were already up for sale. As for Charles, the expert revealed that he managed to include Camilla in the wedding by wearing cufflinks with her insignia, which seemingly “made him emotional.”

These claims about Charles and Diana’s wedding surfaced after PEOPLE recalled the events. In the report, the publication cited Sally Bedell Smith’s “Prince Charles: The Passions and Paradoxes of an Improbable Life.” The book reveals that he had given in to the pressure to marry Diana, and was allegedly “torn about his love for the then-married Camilla.” The work had also claimed that the monarch “cried over it the night before his nuptials.”

King Charles and his ex, now-Queen Consort Camilla, married in April 2005, about a decade after divorcing from Princess Diana. Reportedly, the king and the late princess finalized their split in the summer of 1996, about a year before Diana’s tragic death during a car chase and subsequent crash in Paris.
