Vincent D’Onofrio Has a Bold Message for Marvel & Sony

Vincent D’Onofrio is not holding back. The actor shared that he wants a major Marvel crossover to happen. Moreover, he’s calling on studios to sort things out so fans can finally see it on screen.

Vincent D’Onofrio wants Spider-Man vs. Kingpin

Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Kingpin in Daredevil: Born Again, recently jumped in on a fan question about a live-action face-off with Spider-Man. He didn’t sugarcoat it and said it could happen only if Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios sort things out. He called the whole situation messy, but said he hopes it eventually works out.

“If Sony and Marvel ever get their sh*t together, maybe. It’s a complicated rights issue. Hope so,” D’Onofrio said. The comment instantly got fans buzzing since people have wanted to see that showdown on screen for years.

The hold-up comes down to studio rights. Marvel controls Kingpin within its universe, but Sony owns the film rights to Spider-Man. The web-slinger has shown up in Marvel movies through special deals, but those agreements are tricky to pull off. That’s why this iconic comic-book rivalry still hasn’t made it to live-action in a proper film yet.

Both characters have crossed paths before, but only in animation. In Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Kingpin, voiced by Liev Schreiber, went up against Miles Morales. Still, fans are waiting for a live-action showdown featuring Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin.

D’Onofrio remains a fan favorite as Wilson Fisk, especially after his return in Daredevil: Born Again, where the character climbs to power as New York City’s mayor. At the same time, the next Spider-Man instalment, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is already making noise, with its trailer pulling in over a billion views.

Beyond Marvel, D’Onofrio has built a strong career across film and TV. He’s known for standout roles in Full Metal Jacket, Men in Black, and Law & Order: Criminal Intent, showing his range from intense drama to blockbuster hits.

For now, the Spider-Man vs. Kingpin dream remains stuck in negotiations, but D’Onofrio has made it clear he’s ready when the studios are.
