Vince Gilligan has shared a disappointing update on Pluribus Season 2‘s development. In a recent interview, the acclaimed screenwriter-filmmaker revealed that progress was quite slow. However, he teased what fans can expect and promised that the next chapter would deeply explore certain characters. Notably, the second installment was ordered along with the first, ahead of the latter’s launch on Apple TV.
Vince Gilligan shares an update on Pluribus Season 2
In a recent interview about an article for the 25th anniversary of The Lone Gunmen, his X-Files spin-off, Gilligan was asked about the latest update on Pluribus Season 2’s development.
The Breaking Bad creator told Polygon, “I can tell you you’re catching me here in our offices.” He added, “We’re plugging away on it. I’m taking a little bit longer lunch break than usual to talk to you, which I’m enjoying doing.”
He further stated that they were mapping out Season 2, but that it wasn’t progressing as quickly as he hoped. However, Gilligan shared his hopes for “more excitement and twists and turns.” He also teased that the sophomore outing had “some dramatic stuff” in store. While he didn’t divulge any plot details, he hinted that some characters whom audiences met in Season 1 would have more prominent roles in Season 2.
“I’d love to see more of Mr. Diabaté [Samba Schutte], for instance,” he shared. “And seeing more of Zosia [Karolina Wydra] and Manousos [Carlos Manuel Vesga] is always going to be a treat for us and for the audience. And of course, Carol remains front and center in our show, played by the great Rhea Seehorn.” Gilligan then joked that fans would see Season 2 when they wrapped up in “eight or nine years,” while also teasing “plenty of fun stuff” for the four aforementioned characters.
Gilligan’s response comes a month after he said on Apple TV press day that fans shouldn’t expect an annual release for each season of Pluribus. However, he clarified that the show would always return in the same month. Notably, the inaugural season premiered on Apple TV in November 2025. This means when the show returns to the small screen, whether in 2027 or later, it will be in that month.
