The Lowdown Season 2 Casts Huge TV & Movie Star Opposite Ethan Hawke

Production for Season 2 of FX’s critically acclaimed drama The Lowdown is heating up. As the series prepares to begin filming in Tulsa this spring, the show has a major addition to its cast, which already includes Ethan Hawke.

Betty Gilpin joins FX’s The Lowdown Season 2 with Ethan Hawke

Emmy-nominated actress Betty Gilpin is reportedly set to star opposite Ethan Hawke in The Lowdown Season 2, promising to bring even more intensity to the gritty Western-noir world. The FX series will feature Gilpin in the role of Ginger. Details surrounding her character are currently under wraps (via Deadline).

Gilpin is widely recognized for her breakout role in Netflix’s GLOW. However, currently, she is generating buzz in the Netflix limited series Death By Lightning. Her extensive resume also includes acclaimed turns in projects like Mrs. Davis, American Primeval, and Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming film The Social Reckoning.

Now, The Lowdown Season 2, created by Sterlin Harjo, follows the dangerous life of citizen journalist Lee Raybon, played by Ethan Hawke. He is a self-proclaimed Tulsa “truthstorian.” Lee is obsessed with exposing the city’s corruption, a mission that constantly puts him in harm’s way. The first season saw Lee investigate the powerful Washberg family. A probe that led to the suspicious suicide of Dale Washberg and uncovered a much larger conspiracy lurking beneath the surface.

The show’s freshman run was a hit with critics. It earned a spot on the AFI Awards’ list of the 10 most outstanding TV programs of 2025. The stacked ensemble for Season 1 included Keith David, Kyle MacLachlan, and Jeanne Tripplehorn. Even Peter Dinklage and the late Graham Greene were featured in the show.

With Betty Gilpin now on board, The Lowdown Season 2 is shaping up to be another must-watch event. The series is produced by FX Productions, and all episodes from the first season are currently streaming on Hulu.
