HBO is rolling out a Harry Potter TV series with a fresh cast. Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton will reportedly be stepping into the shoes of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, respectively. Now, Daniel Radcliffe has talked about the OG trio’s, which consists of him, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, reactions to the upcoming TV show.
Original Harry Potter trio has a ‘surreal’ feeling regarding the TV reboot
In an interview with PEOPLE, Daniel Radcliffe shared his, Emma Watson’s, and Rupert Grint’s reactions to the Harry Potter TV series. He said watching new faces is “surreal,” and the original trio is processing it together. Radcliffe, who played Harry in the fantasy film franchise, shared that he has been in touch with Watson and Grint amid the news of the tv adaptation.
The actor said how the three have been reflecting on “how surreal [it is] to watch people starting off on that journey, all those years later.” Radcliffe also mentioned how he and his ex-colleagues haven’t had “a ton of communication about the show specifically.” However, they are feeling the same emotions.
The 36-year-old said, “It’s one of those where I think we all just know how the others feel, because we’re also feeling it.” He added, “You just see the pictures of these kids, and you just want to grab them and hug them. That’s the impulse that I think that we, mainly, all have.” Radcliffe additionally stated how seeing the young cast is offering a fresh opinion on his experience as a child actor: “When you’re 11, and you’re doing something, you’re like, ‘Of course I’m old enough to do this — I’m the oldest I’ve ever been.'”
The actor then reflected on how, when he meets 11-year-olds, “it puts into perspective” certain feelings. He added, “Honestly, it makes me admire – and I do tell them this, but my parents — more than I was capable of doing at the time.” Radcliffe concluded, “Just going like, ‘Wow, you got me through something crazy, and you did it with a huge amount of humor,’ yeah, it’s a big task.”
