Game of Thrones star Kit Harington didn’t hold back his feelings about a fan petition calling for a remake of the show’s final season. Signed by over two million people, the petition asked for the series to be redone “with competent writers.” Harington says the campaign left him “genuinely angered,” defending the effort and dedication of the show’s original writers.
Kit Harington has this to say about controversial fan petition
Harington told The New York Times that the petition left him completely fuming. “That genuinely angered me,” he said. “Like, how dare you? Sorry, that’s just how I feel.” He also made it clear how much he respects Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, praising the effort they put in to wrap up the final season while racing to catch up with George R.R. Martin’s unfinished books.
As per Harington, that “level of idiocy” only really comes from social media. The actor also opened up about the timing of the final Game of Thrones season, which aired while he was struggling with stress and alcohol issues. Harrington remembered the shocking swing in public opinion. “I went in, and everyone loved Thrones; I came out, and everyone hated it.”
He also admitted the season felt rushed, not because anyone slacked off, but because the cast and crew were completely drained. “I look at pictures of me in that final season, and I look exhausted. I look spent. I didn’t have another season in me,” he explained.
Harington also weighed in on the idea of a Jon Snow sequel or spinoff in a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly. He’s open to exploring the character further, but only if the story feels right. “HBO cares about the character a lot, and I care about the character a lot, and we don’t want to put out something that is going to sully the character,” he said. For now, he confirmed that nothing is in motion. They’re holding off until a story truly lands.
