The Hunting Party makers’ decision to kill off Odell, a major player in the show’s Season 2 premiere, not only took its audience by surprise, but his death also left a huge impact on lead star Melissa Roxburgh, who plays Bex. She opened up about the heartbreaking twist of the show’s latest episode in a recent interview, which saw Oliver Odell (Nick Wechsler) succumb to his ailment. A distraught Roxburgh also suggested that the character could have survived the events of the Season 2 premiere, raising multiple eyebrows.
Melissa Roxburgh says ‘there’s a chance’ Odell is not dead in The Hunting Party Season 2
During a recent conversation, the Canadian actress noted that even though Oliver Odell’s death had left her in a “devastated” state, it is possible that Bex Henderson’s former partner might have evaded death by the skin of his teeth.
Talking about whether Odell’s death in The Hunting Party was fake, Melissa Roxburgh stated to ScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns, “Going with how our show has been playing out, there’s a chance that he’s not actually dead. It’s all one big conspiracy theory. But if he is actually dead, which it seems so far, yeah, we lost a teammate. We lost an amazing actor to our show, and I’m really sad about it.”
Regardless, the development seems to have “devastated” Roxburgh, who had an “awesome” time sharing the screen with Nick Wechsler in Season 1. The 33-year-old actress showered her co-star with immense praise in the interview, calling him “an amazing person” and “such a good actor.”
Notably, the finale of The Hunting Party Season 1 sees Jenna ‘Killer Chemist’ Wells (Eliza Coupe) poison Odell, leaving the latter’s fate in the air. However, the first episode of Season 2 wastes no time in confirming that Odell has actually passed away. As such, the second season would see Bex channeling her exceptional “compartmentalizing” skills to build “her [emotional] walls” to cope with the loss.
Roxburgh then touched upon Bex’s dynamics with Shane (Josh McKenzie) following the death of Odell in The Hunting Party, stating, “End of Season 1, we find out that Lazarus is a serial killer, and he has ties to her. So, I think that’s kind of the new triangle — not romantically. But we do see Bex and Shane kind of start to gravitate towards each other.”
