Star of NBC Thriller Reacts to Show’s Poor Reviews Ahead of Season 2

The NBC crime thriller series The Hunting Party, which received a rare 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes when it debuted, is returning with Season 2. Now, ahead of the second season’s premiere, one of the show’s stars, Melissa Roxburgh, has reacted to the poor critical reviews received by the show during its debut. Notably, one year following Season 1’s release, the critical score has increased from 0% to 25%.

Melissa Roxburgh reacts to The Hunting Party’s poor reviews

Melissa Roxburgh was asked about The Hunting Party Season 1’s negative critical reception in a recent interview. She responded by not expressing any concern at the poor reviews.

While speaking to ScreenRant, Roxburgh noted that it was expected that many were “going to criticize everything” and that it was “fine” if they didn’t care about the show’s first season.

Roxburgh proceeded to defend the series, calling it “a fun show.” She emphasized that the show isn’t “supposed to be high art,” adding that its purpose is to “entertain” viewers and spook them before bedtime.

“We’re here to scratch the itch of the serial killer genre, and the true crime genre,” she elaborated. “So, I don’t really care if people didn’t like it. There are a lot of people who love the show, and those are the people we’re making it for.”

Although The Hunting Party Season 1 currently still has a low score of 25% on Rotten Tomatoes, it does hold a more robust audience score of 83% on the website. This and Roxburgh’s above comments indicate that while critics may not have enjoyed the series and what it has to offer, the show has found a solid fan following.

It remains to be seen how The Hunting Party Season 2 will fare and if the show’s critical reception will improve.

The Hunting Party was created by JJ Bailey, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Jake Coburn, Keto Shimizu, and Thor Freudenthal.

In addition to Roxburgh, The Hunting Party also stars Nick Wechsler, Patrick Sabongui, Josh McKenzie, and Sara Alicia Garcia, among others.
