Silicon Valley star Kumail Nanjiani recently addressed a wild rumor claiming he had romantic links with former First Lady Michelle Obama.
During a recent episode of the So True with Caleb Hearon podcast, the actor and comedian spoke openly about the situation. He addressed the topic during the discussion. Nanjiani explained that the rumor seemingly appeared from nowhere. He also said people brought it up not only to him, but also to his wife, Emily V. Gordon.
Nanjiani recalled how Emily first told him about the rumor. “I was so excited!” he said while describing his reaction. “My friend, our mutual friend, pulled Emily aside and was like, ‘Hey, so I heard that Kumail and Michelle Obama are like doing it.’ And she was like, she wasn’t even upset, but multiple people brought it up to me,” the Eternals actor explained.
Addressing how unfounded the claim was, Nanjiani stated clearly, “I have never met Michelle Obama.”
The rumor surfaced as reports circulated about Michelle Obama facing marital challenges with former President Barack Obama. Michelle was not seen with Barack earlier this year at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral. They were not even at President Donald Trump’s inauguration together. This fueled speculation online.
Michelle Obama has previously spoken candidly about difficulties in her marriage. In 2022, she made a revealing statement while discussing that period of her life. “People think I’m being catty by saying this — it’s like, there were 10 years where I couldn’t stand my husband,” she told Revolt TV (via Complex). “And guess when it happened? When those kids were little.”
She added, “And for 10 years while we’re trying to build our careers and, you know, worrying about school and who’s doing what and what, I was like, ‘Ugh, this isn’t even,…And guess what? Marriage isn’t 50/50 — ever, ever.'”
Despite the speculation circulating online, Kumail Nanjiani has no connection to the rumor in any way.
