Kumail Nanjiani recently revealed that he came very close to being cast as Abed in the hit sitcom Community. While chatting with a host, the actor shared a detailed account of his audition process.
Speaking with the host, Nanjiani began by asking, “Do you know the show Community?” After the host responded, Nanjiani explained, “The last two for Abed were me and Danny Pudi.” He went on to describe the awkward studio and network tests. The actor said, “You go into a room like this, and there’s just like eight people in suits sitting there. You do it for them.”
Nanjiani also mentioned a surprising detail about the process, adding, “But before you do that, you signed the contract already. So, I’d signed the contract.” Reflecting on the experience, Nanjiani admitted with a laugh that knowing how much money he missed out on during the six seasons the show aired was tough.
