Prince William’s gesture in a recently released Instagram video for the charity Fields in Trust appears to counter claims made by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had previously suggested that the Prince of Wales is not fond of hugging. However, the new video opens with Prince William warmly greeting former Lioness Jill Scott with a hug, offering a contrasting picture.
This Prince William gesture strikes at a Prince Harry and Meghan Markle claim — report
Prince William recently made a gesture in a new Instagram video for Fields in Trust, which reportedly struck at a previous claim made by both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. As reported by Express, the Duchess of Sussex claimed that her brother-in-law was not keen on hugging in the 2022 docuseries, “Harry and Meghan.”
Per the news outlet, Meghan Markle said in the Netflix docuseries, “Even when Will and Kate came over and I was meeting her for the first time I remember I was in ripped jeans, I was barefoot.” She continued, “Like I was a hugger, I have always been a hugger.” The Duchess of Sussex further explained, “I didn’t realise that is really jarring for a lot of Brits.” She reportedly also added, “I started to understand that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside.”
In the meantime, Prince Harry also made a similar claim about his brother, Prince William, in “Spare,” his 2023 memoir. According to the news outlet, the Duke of Sussex wrote in the memoir, “I introduced Meg, who leaned in and gave him (Prince William) a hug.” He continued, “which completely freaked him out.” The Duke of Sussex further added, “He recoiled.”
Meanwhile, the new Fields in Trust video on Instagram captured Prince William giving a warm hug to Jill Scott upon meeting her at the very beginning of the clip. Thus, this gesture by the Prince of Wales allegedly opposed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s claim.
