Royal authors claimed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle felt sidelined because of missing photos
Soon after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot in 2018, cracks in their relationship with the royal family began to show. According to a December 17 RadarOnline report, insiders claimed the “final straw” for the couple was the absence of a photo of them and their newborn child from the Royal Desk during the Queen’s 2019 Christmas address.
In their biography, Finding Freedom, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand wrote, “In the Green Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace, where the Queen delivered her address, viewers glimpsed photos of the (Waleses) and their children, Charles and Camilla, Prince Philip, and a black-and-white image of George VI. Noticeably absent was a photo of Harry, Meghan, and their new baby, Archie.”
An insider who was aware of this event said, “Harry and Meghan had been feeling increasingly sidelined within the Firm at the time. But the missing photograph made their long-standing frustrations painfully obvious.” However, a palace source claimed that the Queen was only emphasizing the line of succession with the photos on the desk and had no intention of excluding anyone.
The Sussexes and their son Archie, who was seven months old at the time, spent Christmas 2019 with Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, in Canada. Weeks later, the couple publicly announced their decision to step back as senior royals. The announcement attracted huge media coverage.
Since then, tensions between Prince Harry-Meghan Markle and the royal family have only intensified. From their bombshell interview on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” to Harry’s memoir “Spare”, the rift has grown increasingly palpable.
