Oscar Isaac on His Pre-Frankenstein Chemistry With Jacob Elordi

Oscar Isaac talked about his pre-Frankenstein chemistry with his costar Jacob Elordi. Isaac played the brilliant but arrogant surgeon Baron Victor Frankenstein, who birthed the magnificent creature, also known as Frankenstein’s monster. The film, based on Mary Shelley’s 1818 gothic novel of the same name, details the fascinating journey of Victor Frankenstein and his creation.

Oscar Isaac shares if he and Jacob Elordi worked on their chemistry

Oscar Isaac discussed working with Jacob Elordi on Frankenstein in Variety’s Actors on Actors interview with Teyana Taylor. The 35-year-old artist asked, “How was the chemistry-building? Did you and Jacob know each other already?”

The Dune star replied, “No. We met once, briefly, in Guillermo’s office. The first time I saw him as the creature was on set, the day that we filmed the last scene.” He revealed that there was “no chemistry building,” but rather “chemistry in action.”

Isaac continued, “He approached it in a way that was very vulnerable and raw and open. We played it like it’s one person. On the one side is pure awareness, and on the other side is pure ego. Those two things come together, finally, at the end.”

Elsewhere in his Actors on Actors interview, Taylor quizzed Isaac about playing surgeon Victor Frankenstein. She asked, “What was one of the most difficult scenes on a personal level, through any of the movies that you’ve done?”

The Dune star replied that the last scene between him and Elordi is the most memorable scene for him. Directly referencing the moment, Taylor asked if Isaac felt “bad” for beating Elordi in the scene.

Isaac cautiously replied no and explained his reason. “I wasn’t supposed to feel bad.” The 35-year-old artist jokingly declared, “Oh my God, Victor! You are selfish!”

In a past interview with Variety, Elordi gushed over his costar Isaac and stated, “You’re one of my favorite actors in the world.” The 28-year-old confessed he was “s****ing bricks at the prospect of working with a hero.”
