Taylor Swift got emotional while speaking about the allegedly disrupted terrorist plot that targeted one of her Eras Tour concerts in her new Disney+ docuseries, The End of an Era. The pop sensation opened up about this in the first episode of the docuseries and described the feeling as “skating on thin ice.” This planned terrorist plot ultimately caused officials to cancel all of her tour dates in Vienna, Austria, in August 2024.
Taylor Swift talks about the Vienna incident in The End of an Era docuseries
On August 7, 2024, Swift’s Taylor Nation and concert promoter Barracuda Music announced that they had canceled the shows in Vienna, Austria. This was after they received confirmation of a terrorist plot at Ernst Happel Stadium.
The 14-time Grammy winner discussed this in the first episode of The End of an Era. She teared up while talking about the incident. Taylor recalled that she felt like “skating on thin ice” as “very violent, scary things” were happening to the tour.
Taylor Swift talked about this in a clip ahead of her 2024 concert in London. Swift said, “We dodged a mass slaughter.”
Shortly after the Vienna concert was canceled, CIA Deputy Director David S. Cohen told the New York Times, “They were plotting to kill a huge number, tens of thousands of people at this concert, I am sure many Americans. The Austrians were able to make those arrests because the agency and our partners in the intelligence community provided them information about what this ISIS-connected group was planning to do.”
Authorities arrested two suspects at the time, and a 16-year-old Syrian teenager living in Germany was convicted. He was convicted of “preparing a serious act of violence and supporting a terrorist act of violence abroad” (via CBS).
While talking about this foiled plot, Swift also addressed the knife attack. This was at a Swift-themed dance and yoga class that killed three children and injured 10 more. This attack happened just a month before authorities prevented a mass slaughter.
The first two episodes of Taylor Swift’s The End of an Era are now streaming on Disney+.
