Trump addressed the case while speaking to reporters at the Oval Office on February 3. When asked about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, the president expressed sympathy and concern while confirming that the federal government is prepared to assist local authorities if needed.

“I think it’s terrible,” Trump told reporters. He added that he intends to contact Savannah Guthrie directly. He said, “I’m going to call her later on. It’s a terrible thing. I always get along well with Savannah. Very unusual situation, but we’re going to find out…” The White House has also amplified awareness of the case through social media, sharing details of the ongoing search and urging the public to come forward with any information that could help locate Savannah’s mother.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her Arizona home on Saturday, January 31, at approximately 9:30 p.m. local time, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. An urgent search began the next day after she was reported missing at 11 a.m. Authorities have declared her home a crime scene and believe she “did not leave on her own.”

Sheriff Chris Nanos emphasized the urgency of the case due to Nancy’s age and medical needs. “This is an 84-year-old lady who suffers from some physical ailments, has some physical challenges, is in need of medication — medication that, if she doesn’t have in 24 hours, it could be fatal,” he said during a press conference. As of Tuesday, investigators still did not know her whereabouts or how many individuals may be involved (via People).
