Macaulay Culkin recently reiterated the ridiculous name that he legally adopted in 2019. The actor once again opened up about it at the A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin event on Saturday, November 22, at the Long Beach Convention, where fans gathered to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Home Alone.

The actor then went on to recount the story of how this ridiculous name came about. In November 2018, Culkin announced on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that he wants to change his original middle name, “Carson.” The Home Alone star settled on five silly options and asked his fans to vote on which one he should choose.
The poll went up on his lifestyle website, BunnyEars.com, and remained active till December 24, 2018. On Christmas Day that year, Culkin announced via X (formerly Twitter) that the vote results are in and he will legally change his middle name from “Carson” to “Macaulay Culkin.”
During the recent event, Culkin also looked back on the other popular options on the poll that many had voted on, which included his brother Kieran’s name as well. “Macaulay Kieran Culkin. That would be great. I love my brother. Between me and him, we have exactly one Oscar,” Culkin mused. He was referring to Kieran’s 2025 Oscar win for A Real Pain.
“The final vote was Macaulay Culkin,” the actor recalled. “So my name is Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin. If somebody comes up to me at the airport and says, ‘Excuse me, are you Macaulay Culkin?’ I can say, ‘Well, Macaulay Culkin is my middle name,'” Culkin added. He concluded by explaining, “I did it all for that one joke. And a bit on Fallon.”
Meanwhile, Culkin is among the star-studded voice cast of the upcoming animated buddy cop comedy film, Zootopia 2, which is set to arrive in theaters on November 26.
