Macaulay Culkin Stars in New Home Alone-Themed Ad

Macaulay Culkin recently played an older version of his iconic character from Home Alone, Kevin McCallister, in a Home Instead advertisement. In the ad, the character — who has been working hard to defend his mother from all kinds of danger — crossed paths with the granddaughter of Old Man Marley, his neighbor. Upon meeting, the pair engaged in a friendly conversation, where the granddaughter advised McCallister to talk to his mother about getting help.

The Home Instead ad begins with Macaulay Culkin’s Kevin McCallister looking at a detailed safety plan to protect his aging mother. The plan involved stapling quilts to windows and fixing a retinal scanner on the fridge, among other things.

The advertisement then shows McCallister covering various items outside the house, such as a statue, with bubble wrap. While doing this, he talks to someone on the phone, likely one of his siblings, expressing concern for his mother’s safety. “I’m just worried about Mom being by herself, y’know?” He tells the person. McCallister wonders what would happen if his mother fell or got snowed in, pointing out that the South Bay Shovel Slayer — whom Old Man Marley was once rumored to be — was never caught by the authorities.

However, McCallister is interrupted by the sounds of a shovel hitting snow, resulting in him dropping the bubble wrap. The bubble wrap rolls and lands at the feet of a mysterious woman, who was shoveling snow. The woman tells McCallister that he is a “jumpy” person.

Apologizing, McCallister tries to explain why he got startled. However, the woman interrupts, asking if he thought she was Old Man Marley, revealing she is his granddaughter, surprising McCallister.

Marley’s granddaughter asks about the bubble wrap, which McCallister says is because his mother is getting older. The former understands that the latter was wrapping the house and states the obvious before he can explain further.

Marley’s granddaughter asks McCallister if he tried talking to his mother about getting help. The latter replied, admitting he was afraid of bringing up the topic to her.

The former gives the latter advice. “The scariest part is starting that conversation, then at least you’ll know and can stop worrying about it,” she says. She continues, mimicking her grandfather’s intensity, “It’s not easy. But how you feel about family is a complicated thing.”

Marley’s granddaughter asks how the tone of her delivery was. Kevin replies, gushing, “It was just like your grandfather!” He adds, “The face, the eye, the boots! It gave me chills. You nailed it!”
