Matthew McConaughey recently opened up about how a wet dream pushed him to surrender control and trust that destiny would naturally guide him to the right woman. In his “Lyrics of Living” newsletter, he reflected on his longtime desire to find the right partner. Although he had met many women over the years, none was the one who stayed. But once he stopped desperately searching and allowed things to happen naturally, he crossed paths with his now-wife, Camila Alves, just three months later.
Matthew McConaughey on how he met his wife
Through his “Lyrics of Living” newsletter, the ‘Interstellar’ actor revealed that he had a deep yearning for finding the right partner. He said, “I had met, spent time with, and seriously dated some wonderful women in my life, many of whom I am still friends with today, but ultimately they were all stops, no stays. In my mid-30s, I was looking for a lifetime lover, a best friend, and a mother-to-be. I was looking for more, I was looking for the one, I was looking for her.”
He shared that he once had a wet dream in which he saw an older version of himself calmly sitting on the front porch of his country home. At the time, he witnessed 22 vehicles, 22 women, and 88 children. He revealed that he knew the women and children, and they all looked happy, serene, and healthy. With each mother, he shared an “idyllic” memory. He mentioned that everyone laughed, cried, kissed, and joked, followed by gathering around a large-format box camera on a tripod to click a family photo. He further added, “Then I came.”
Alluding to the dream being a spiritual sign, he further added, “The red light vision of being a lifelong bachelor had come to me in a green light wet dream. It was a spiritual sign, a message to surrender, to quit trying so intentionally to find the perfect woman for me, and, instead, concede to the natural selection process of finding her, her finding me, or not. So I quit looking for her.”
McConaughey revealed that when he stopped looking for the right partner, he came across one, i.e., Camila. In 2006, the duo met at West Hollywood nightclub Hyde, and they instantly clicked. Following their engagement in 2011, the duo married at their home in Austin, Texas, the next year.
Revealing details on finding the woman of his dreams, he further added, “Then she came. Three months later, I met Camila. Twenty years later, she’s still the only woman I’ve ever wanted to take on a date, sleep with, or wake up next to.”
