Nathan Lane calls out ‘terribly unfunny’ Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey
Nathan Lane criticised Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey for their discussion on opera and ballet. Whoopi Goldberg asked the Modern Family star about his thoughts on the controversy.
“Oh, what a schmuck,” Lane responded. He further added, “One doesn’t want to give this more attention than it deserves. However, he shared that “it was kind of kaleidoscopic in its stupidity and insensitivity.”
Lane shared how the Dune 2 star’s comments and the way he said is “strangely telling about where we are in this country.” The 70-year-old continued, “First of all, one should remember people will be going to see Swan Lake and La Traviata long after someone at a dinner party says, ‘Who is Timothée Chalamet?’ It’s the show business circle of life.” He explained, “The bigger question is, why was there a town hall meeting with Matthew McConaughey and Timothée Chalamet?”
Lane continued, “I mean, who deemed the meeting of this minds necessary? He pressed on a town hall meeting with the Democrats to discuss “how to get this lunatic out of the White House.”
The award-winning actor also said, “I’ve got news for Timmy — if you think nobody cares about opera and ballet, I can’t tell you how much we don’t care about ping-pong!” Lane added, “In his defense, he was doing it with Matthew McConaughey, so I’m thinking some weed was smoked and this may just be a tragic case of terribly unfunny people trying to be funny, which always ends in disaster.”
Talking about Chalamet’s remarks, the Marty Supreme said, “I don’t want to be working in ballet or opera where it’s like, ‘Hey! Keep this thing alive, even though no one cares about this anymore.” The 30-year-old continued, “All respect to the ballet and opera people out there… I just lost 14 cents in viewership. I’m taking shots for no reason.”
