During his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Nov. 10, George Clooney looked back at his famous ’80s mullet, a look that’s now become retro gold for fans. However, Clooney swears he wasn’t to blame for the wild hairdo, joking, “It wasn’t my fault.”
George Clooney talks about his mullet from the ’80s
While promoting his new movie, Jay Kelly, George Clooney sat down with Jimmy Kimmel for a little throwback fun, and his iconic mullet made a cameo. Kimmel pulled up old photos from Clooney’s The Facts of Life days in the ’80s, showing off his thick, dark hair in all its glory.
Clooney chuckled up the moment he saw it, saying, “Look at that hair! That’s a mullet, dude.”
Kimmel, 57, couldn’t resist poking fun, saying it looked like “It’s like there was one hair place in the ‘80s and everyone went to it.” Clooney added, “If you notice, Nancy and I have the exact same haircut!”
The Ocean’s Eleven star also went on to explain that his mullet kind of evolved over time, “longer in the back, shorter on the sides, as you do.” However, according to Clooney, he wasn’t to blame for the hairstyle.
“I don’t know! It wasn’t my fault. My parents weren’t taking me to the barber,” he joked.
Clooney first turned heads back in 1985 on The Facts of Life, where that mullet and his charm helped him climb the Hollywood ladder, eventually landing his big break on ER.
More recently, Clooney switched things up again by ditching his signature silver fox look and dyeing his hair for his Broadway debut in Good Night, and Good Luck. But apparently, his wife, Amal, wasn’t a fan of it and was so happy when Clooney changed it.
“Oh, my wife [Amal] was the happiest person when I came home after the play today, and I’d cut all the hair off. Because, you know, I looked like a drug dealer with that bad black dye job.” (Via People)
