Meghan Markle is officially stepping back into the world of acting. The 44-year-old duchess is set to make her on-screen return in the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film “Close Personal Friends,” where she will appear as herself in a small role. The actor was recently photographed on the set in Pasadena, California, on November 5.
Speaking to PEOPLE, a source shared that Markle “introduced herself as simply ‘Meghan,’” and her demeanor was described as “sweet and calm.” Another insider added that Meghan “genuinely seemed excited to be on set” and even joked that she “felt a bit rusty,” though it was clear that she had “rehearsed,” and it was evident that returning to set meant a lot to her. The source also noted that “she had a very warm energy” and was “super pleasant to be around.”
Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, and Henry Golding will star in the film, which tells the story of a couple on vacation in Santa Barbara who befriend a famous duo. Markle, who rose to fame playing Rachel Zane in the legal drama “Suits,” stepped away from acting in 2018 ahead of her marriage to Prince Harry.
A studio insider reported to The Sun that her involvement in the project marks “a massive moment” for the Duchess and “signifies a return to doing what she truly loves.” Another insider shared that Harry has been “really supportive” of Markle’s decision, adding that he “wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy.”
