Now You See Me: Now You Don’t Producer Explains Movie’s Title Story

Now You See Me 3 producer Bobby Cohen recently shared how the film received its official title. Cohen shared that he and director Ruben Fleischer were determined to call the third installment Now You See Me: Now You Don’t

Bobby Cohen on how Now You See Me 3 got Now You Don’t title

At the New York premiere of Now You See Me 3 on November 10, producer Bobby Cohen revealed how the latest installment received its title.

Variety‘s interviewer asked, “Fans on social media have said in the past that they wished that Now You See Me 2 was named Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.” Cohen replied, “Yeah. I always did want that. I will admit freely.” However, the studio was initially reluctant to move away from the familiar branding of the previous films. “The studio felt, understandably, when you are lucky enough to get a title that sticks, you don’t want to mess with it,” he explained.

However, by the time production began on the third film, Cohen and director Ruben Fleischer made a plan to get the studio on board. He noted, “We did not want to call it Now You See Me 3 or Now You 3 Me.” The producer said that he and Fleischer began using Now You See Me: Now You Don’t in every piece of internal communication, including memos and emails. Cohen added, “The slate said Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, every call sheet said Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.”

The producer recalled that after the first test screening, studio executives proposed the same title themselves. Cohen added, “So, I will take a full credit. It was a self-fulfilling prophecy. We were so thrilled to call it that.” He also humorously acknowledged the challenge of naming the future installment. However, Cohen remains confident, saying, “But we will come up with something clever.”
