Now You See Me 3 Director on Why [Spoiler]’s Death Wasn’t Reversed

Now You See Me 3 director Ruben Fleischer has addressed the future of a major character who dies in the new film. With audiences questioning whether the role could return in a future installment, the filmmaker has answered the question.

Ruben Fleischer clears the air on Thaddeus’ death in Now You See Me 3

Director Ruben Fleischer has directly addressed the speculation surrounding Thaddeus Bradley’s fate in Now You See Me 3. He confirmed that Bradley’s death in the third installment was genuine. Thaddeus, portrayed by Morgan Freeman, is shown being fatally shot by police officers working under the orders of antagonist Veronika Vanderberg.

The director addressed growing viewer speculation, stating that the scene was not designed as a hidden trick or a future twist. Fleischer explained that the team briefly discussed alternate possibilities, including a version in which Thaddeus reappears later in the film. However, he ultimately rejected the idea. 

The director said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “We thought about it, but it felt like maybe it would undermine the cause of the Horsemen. Because we toyed with the idea, maybe at the end he’s playing with his grandchildren doing a magic trick or something like that.” He added, “But we chose not to, just to allow for Veronika truly to be as bad as she’s perceived. “

According to Fleischer, Freeman also supported the decision. He said, “Morgan felt like it was the right thing to do, so I wouldn’t have done it if he felt otherwise.”

Isla Fisher, who reprises her role as Henley Reeves, shared that filming the scene was very emotional. She said, “That was a really hard scene to film. I’m just an emotional person anyway, and watching Morgan Freeman, who’s such an incredible actor, die in such a realistic way, even though we shot it for three days, I just couldn’t stop crying.” The actress also expressed hope that the franchise might eventually find a way to bring Thaddeus back.
