Pete Davidson made a surprise appearance on SNL last week, much to the delight of fans, where he also joked about the recent New York Times story that said he and his friend Colin Jost’s purchase of a Staten Island Ferry was a “money-losing fiasco.” He connected this to his infamous appearance at the Riyadh Comedy Festival, claiming that he was losing millions on the ferry, which prompted him to do this gig.
Pete Davidson jokes about Riyadh Comedy Festival
Pete Davidson addressed buying a Staten Island Ferry with Colin Jost and his infamous appearance at the Riyadh Comedy Festival on his latest appearance on SNL. The comedian, who started out at SNL and remained there for eight years, claimed that he needed to do the Riyadh Comedy Festival as he was losing millions on the ferry.
“So yeah, in case you’re wondering why I had to do a show in Saudi Arabia, we’re losing millions on this ferry,” Davidson joked, adding, “I assume that’s what the article says; I can’t spend $5 on a paywall when I got a kid on the way.” Davidson is expecting a child with Elsie Hewitt soon.
Jost previously revealed that their purchase of the ferry had gone down well. He also mentioned that they got paid by Nike to place an ad on it during the New York City Marathon. Davidson further joked about the ferry and his high ambitions for it.
He referred to those who promised to leave New York if Zohran Mamdani won the election, saying, “Hey, Staten Islanders, did you promise to move out of New York if Mamdani won but have too many warrants for New Jersey and not enough guns for Florida? Well, welcome to New Staten Island.” He added, “It will have everything that makes Staten Island great: the pizza…,” seemingly running out of things to say.
Davidson and Jost reportedly bought the decommissioned ferry in 2022 in hopes of turning it into a floating comedy club.
Interestingly, Pete Davidson did reveal that he could still return to SNL if Lorne Michaels asked him to.
