Morgan Freeman set the record straight on retirement rumors. In a recent conversation with The Guardian, Freeman discussed a wide range of topics. These included his thoughts on AI in the entertainment industry, his continuing passion for acting, and his early dream of becoming a fighter pilot.
Morgan Freeman shares if he has any thoughts on retirement
In a conversation with The Guardian, Freeman, 88, revealed whether he has any plans to retire from acting. He mentioned that the thought of retirement does cross his mind occasionally. However, when he receives an acting offer, the thought fades away. “Sometimes the idea of retirement would float past me but, as soon as my agent says there’s a job or somebody wants you or they’ve made an offer, the whole thing just boils back into where it was yesterday: how much you’re going to pay, where we’re gonna be?” he explained.
He elaborated that his spark for acting might have dimmed a little, but he has no plans to retire anytime soon. “The appetite is still there. I will concede that it’s dimmed a little. But not enough to make a serious difference,” he explained.
Back in 2021, the Shawshank Redemption actor was asked whether he thought he would ever retire from acting. This was in a conversation with Parade. He replied, “I think this business retires you. I’m not quite sure I can say, ‘Well, yeah, I’m going to retire,’ because if your phone keeps ringing, you’re probably going to keep working. So I’m going to stop there and say probably not.”
According to IMDb, Freeman currently has three upcoming projects. The first is an American heist movie titled Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, set to release on November 14, 2025. The other two projects include The Little Bedroom and Hate to See You Go, which are currently in pre-production.
