White Lotus Actress Slams Sydney Sweeney Jeans Ad Response

Sydney Sweeney’s ad for American Eagle jeans went viral when it came out because of the alleged racist undertone that promoted eugenics. While the ad left the country divided, Sydney Sweeney maintained her silence for quite a long time. Recently, in an interview with GQ, the Euphoria star addressed the controversy, but not quite like some would have expected.

After this rather banal response to such a huge controversy, The White Lotus Season 3 star Aimee Lou Wood responded to how Sweeney reacted.

After maintaining her silence on the matter for quite a while, Sydney Sweeney spoke out about the jeans ad controversy in her interview with GQ, where she claimed she was “surprised.” The Anyone But You actress did not at all address the ad properly and failed to say anything about the reaction it caused.

“I did a jean ad,” Sweeney told GQ, “I mean, the reaction definitely was a surprise, but I love jeans.” This reaction did not sit well with many, including celebrity photographer and social activist Misan Harriman.

The photographer shared the GQ clip of Sydney Sweeney on Instagram and wrote in the caption, “Presuming that you are not a white supremacist, at least say how h0orrified you were by how this campaign was amplified and celebrated by unrepentant racists who believe in eugenics. At least recognise the harm your jeans campaign has caused black folk, the undertone of the campaign is that your genetics are superior to others, the play on words is clear as day, and racists LOVED it! So, presuming you didn’t know when you shot it, you certainly do now, and it matters. This ain’t it!”

This post saw many comments, including one from Aimee Lou Wood. Wood did not write anything explicitly. But she commented with an emoji of a nauseated face, implying she was sickened by the comment (via Lad Bible). Since then, Wood’s comment has gone viral. Many fans praised her for taking a stand on the right side of history.

Many others also commented on the post, bashing Sydney Sweeney’s response. The topic continues to be a divisive one months after the ad.
