Diane Ladd, famously known for her role in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, dies at the age of 89. She reportedly passed away with her daughter, Laura Dern, beside her at her home in Ojai, California.

During her acting career, Ladd received three Academy Award nominations for her roles in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Wild at Heart, and Rambling Rose. In 1981, she won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in the CBS sitcom Alice. She also holds a BAFTA Award and an Independent Spirit Award, both for Best Supporting Actress, in 1976 and 1992, respectively.

Ladd married Bruce Dern in 1960, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Laura Dern, before their separation in 1969. She worked with her daughter in the 1990 film Wild at Heart as a supporting actress. Dern played the role of Lula Pace Fortune, while her mother played Marietta Fortune.

Furthermore, Dern, at just seven years old, also made a brief appearance in the final scene of Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, where she can be seen quietly eating ice cream in a corner.

Laura Dern releases statement after Diane Ladd’s passing

Laura Dern spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about her mother’s passing. She mentioned that her mother passed away on Monday morning with Dern beside her, at Ladd’s home in Ojai, California. Dern referred to her mother as her “amazing hero and profound gift of a mother.”

Further, she added, “She was the greatest daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist, and empathetic spirit that only dreams could have seemingly created. We were blessed to have her. She is flying with her angels now.”
