Shang-Chi star Simu Liu recalled a painful incident from his days as a stock photo model. In a new interview, the actor revealed that a dog bit him one night before a photo shoot. He also shared some surprising information about the picture from the shoot, which he showed up for despite sustaining an injury from the bite.
Simu Liu says he was bit by a dog before shooting stock photo
In a recent interview, promoting his latest film, In Your Dreams, Simu Liu was asked about the stock photo he would make for the movie. In response, the Marvel actor struck a pose, smiling and waving his hand while dancing.
Liu told Screenrant a personal yet shocking story behind that photo. He explained that one night before the shoot, he and his girlfriend visited a friend who had been dog-sitting. He recalled seeing and petting two dogs that he was unaware hated each other during his visit.
“I think I was petting both of them,” the Barbie actor said. “But I was petting them both on opposite sides of me.” He added, “I think one of the dogs got jealous of the other and lunged for that dog, but then caught my face in the middle of it.”
Liu continued, revealing that his face had been punctured, causing it to bleed. He remembered being worried about the injury since his photo shoot was scheduled for the following day.
The 36-year-old explained further that if one looked “really closely” at the stock photo and other stock photos taken the same day, they could see scarring on the side of his face. “There’s lore behind the stock photos,” he joked.
The Atlas actor has frequently referenced his stock photo days on the internet by sharing snaps of himself. Notably, around the time of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ release, he shared a stock photo clapping back at the critics who claimed the film would flop. “Me laughing at the people who thought we’d flop,” he captioned the photo.
Simu Liu’s upcoming film, In Your Dreams, will be available on Netflix starting November 14, 2025.
