Morgan Freeman has opened up about some of his all-time favorite roles while promoting his upcoming film. Morgan Freeman lists his favorite roles in career spanning six decades

During an interview on TODAY’s Catching Up With… Morgan Freeman discussed his upcoming film Now You See Me: Now You Don’t with the hosts. Initially they asked Freeman what it was like getting back together with the cast, whom he has already worked with in the past. In response, the Shawshank Redemption actor compared it to being like “putting on a favorite pair of shoes.”

He continued to explain how the cast are comfortable working together, as they don’t face any ego problems and know what to expect from each other. Soon, one of the hosts asked him if there was one of his own roles from over the years which is his favorite. Freeman, after agreeing it was like picking a favorite child, answered, “But, no. I can’t pick one out.” However he continues to say that he can pick two or three out, and mentioned, “Anything I did with Clint Eastwood. That’s three.”

Freeman worked with Eastwood on Unforgiven (1992), Million Dollar Baby (2004) and Invictus (2009). Furthermore, as he claimed these three films as his favorite, one of the hosts asked him where The Shawshank Redemption falls on that list. Freeman replied, “Everybody loves Shawshank,” and then went on to explain how the film is so talked about that he doesn’t have to mention it. He also added how his Shawshank Redemption co-star Tim Robbins and he are still very close.

His upcoming film Now You See Me: Now You Don’t comes out in theaters on November 14, 2025. Freeman reprises his role of Thaddeus Bradley, while other cast members including Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Isla Fisher, among others, return for this third installment of the Now You See Me franchise.
