Prince Andrew’s decision to leave the Royal Lodge after over two decades has reportedly drawn criticism from the royal family. Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told GB News that the move “lies in his mindset” and that the ex-Duke of York sees the world differently. Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s reported request for two homes in Windsor reflects “greed and entitlement,” despite being known as “the happiest divorced couple.”
King Charles won’t ‘allow’ Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s double home demand, says expert
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has provided further insight into Prince Andrew’s reported decision to vacate the Royal Lodge. According to GB News, the move reflected the former Duke of York’s “mindset” and unorthodox way of approaching royal matters. Speaking to the outlet, Fitzwilliams explained that the prince “has a particular way of looking at the world” that differed significantly from “those who take a more balanced view.”
The expert noted that despite Andrew’s long-term lease on the property, the pressures surrounding his position within the royal family made a relocation inevitable. Fitzwilliams remarked that “despite the cast iron lease, he was going to move from Royal Lodge in one way or another.”
Addressing reports that Andrew and his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, have requested two separate homes in Windsor after living together for 18 years, Fitzwilliams questioned the rationale behind the arrangement. He said the idea of securing “two homes” was indicative of how the duke “thinks,” but added that it was unlikely to receive approval from King Charles.
According to the expert, such a request is “not something that the public, the parliament, the Royal Family will go along with,” emphasizing that the king will not allow a double home exchange. The commentator further noted that while the proposal may be “a matter of convenience” for the couple, it would not align with public expectations or royal precedent.
Andrew holds a lease on Royal Lodge until 2078. According to the National Audit Office, he has reportedly paid £1 million for the agreement and has further contributed £7.5 million toward renovations completed in 2005.
