Kim Kardashian’s Netflix TV Show Finds New Showrunner

Bridgerton creator Chris Van Dusen is set to return to Netflix with a brand-new series. Titled Calabasas, the upcoming project will see him collaborate with Kim Kardashian and Emma Roberts. The show will explore the experiences of a teenage girl navigating her new life at a high-profile high school.

Chris Van Dusen joins Kim Kardashian’s Calabasas as showrunner

Bridgerton creator Chris Van Dusen has officially joined Netflix’s upcoming drama Calabasas as its new showrunner and writer. The project, produced by Kim Kardashian and Emma Roberts, was first announced in 2024. It is inspired by Via Bleidner’s memoir, If You Lived Here You’d Be Famous By Now.

Van Dusen takes over from I. Marlene King, the creator of Pretty Little Liars. She had been attached to the project for over a year before exiting. This is not Van Dusen’s first collaboration with Netflix. Previously, he developed and oversaw the first two seasons of Bridgerton, one of the platform’s most-watched original dramas.

Calabasas will delve into the story of Via, a 16-year-old from the Midwest whose life takes an unexpected turn when her family relocates to California. As she learns to navigate the complexities of adolescence and Calabasas High, she finds herself in a high-pressure social environment. The show will explore the struggles she faces after relocating and the complexities of her life at Calabasas High.

Van Dusen will serve as an executive producer on Calabasas through his company CVD Productions. He joins forces with Roberts’ Belletrist Productions, Karah Preiss, Matt Matruski, and Alexandra Milchan, whose Crescent Line banner originally acquired the book rights for the project.

The series will add to Van Dusen’s growing slate with Netflix. This includes They Both Die at the End, adapted from Adam Silvera’s bestselling novel, as well as a television adaptation of Elle Kennedy’s Girl Abroad. Further details regarding the series’ casting and production timelines remain under wraps.
