Netflix’s 86% on RT TV Show Gets Disappointing Season 2 Update

Fans hoping for a second season of Netflix’s neo-noir psychological thriller series just got a discouraging update. Andrew Scott, the star of the show, has shared news about the critically praised Netflix miniseries, ending months of speculation about its future.

Andrew Scott sets the record straight on Ripley Season 2

Scott shared a blunt update during a recent interview, shutting down talk of a Season 2 for Ripley. When asked about a continuation, he made it clear that a second season is “not happening.” His response strongly hints that Netflix has decided to move on from the series, even after its positive reception (via Deadline).

The show Ripley debuted in 2024 and draws from the novels by Patricia Highsmith. The story centers on the complex and manipulative Tom Ripley, played by Scott, as he moves through a web of lies, shifting identities, and carefully planned crimes. Dakota Fanning appears as one of the key characters caught in his schemes. The series garnered praise for its slow-building tension and deep character focus.

Even without massive, blockbuster-level numbers, Ripley held its ground on Netflix. The series pulled in around 16.9 million hours viewed in its first week and then climbed to about 18.4 million in week two. Critics also showed love, with the show landing an 86 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. Many praised how deeply it dives into Ripley’s mind, slowly building tension through his eerie and unpredictable behavior.

There was some early optimism about more seasons. Creator Steven Zaillian had said he was open to adapting more from the five-book series if things lined up. However, after recent comments from Scott, that plan now looks unlikely. Even so, Season 1 works as a complete story on its own. For now, fans are left with what many see as one of Netflix’s most polished and gripping crime dramas in recent years.

Andrew Scott has built a solid reputation as one of the most versatile performers working today. He broke out globally with his chilling take on Moriarty in Sherlock. The role put him firmly on the international map. He continued to impress with standout performances in Fleabag and films like All of Us Strangers.
