The recent jewel heist at the Louvre Museum in Paris has made headlines and captured the world’s attention. Now, as per the latest developments, the police have made some crucial progress in the major robbery case, have arrested two suspects in the $102 million Louvre heist.
French authorities nab two suspects of the Louvre Museum heist
The Louvre heist has marked an important development.
According to ABC News, the French authorities shared that they have arrested two suspects in connection with the Louvre jewel heist, which took place on October 19. They nabbed two suspects on Saturday, October 25, at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, France.
As per reports, the first suspect was allegedly trying to escape to Algeria. Meanwhile, the French police apprehended the second suspect while he was trying to escape to Mali, West Africa.
According to the investigating team, both suspects are French nationals and live in Seine-Saint-Denis, a suburb of Paris. One suspect has dual citizenship of France and Mali, and the other of France and Algeria. Hence, the two suspects were planning to escape France and seek refuge in Algeria and Mali, respectively.
Additionally, both suspects have past criminal records of theft and burglary. The French authorities also confirmed that the DNA traces left on the helmet at the crime scene match one of the suspects. Once the DNA traces were sampled, the police put the suspects under phone and physical surveillance.
After a thorough investigation and collection of evidence, the police were able to nab the two and are on a hunt to catch the remaining suspects. Meanwhile, the French authorities are also thoroughly investigating whether an internal source aided the Louvre jewel heist.
For those unversed, a brazen daylight robbery took place on October 19 at the Apollo Gallery in the Louvre Museum in Paris. The items taken in the shocking heist included eight pieces of jewelry and crowns encrusted with diamonds and other precious stones. Experts estimate that the jewels are worth $102 million. Moreover, four suspects were spotted escaping on two motorbikes after the robbery.
