Gayle King Criticized for Selfie With Fox News’ Jess Watters

CBS News’ Gayle King recently posted a selfie with Fox News’ Jesse Watters, who happened to be sitting next to her on a shared flight, on social media. The photo received mixed reactions online, with some praising the picture and others criticizing it. The post comes several months after reports circulated casting doubt on King’s future with CBS.

Internet reacts to Gayle King’s selfie with Jesse Watters

Gayle King shared a selfie of herself and Jesse Watters on Instagram. The snap was accompanied by a caption suggesting they had a good time on their shared flight despite working for rival news networks.

“Two TV people from competing networks walk on to a plane and to the surprise of them both, they’re seated right next to each other for over four hours,” King captioned the post. “How did it go? Speaking for @jessewatters here: A good time was had by all! Hi, Jesse…saving your number!”

The photo drew mixed reactions from both fans and fellow celebrities and journalists. Some praised King for getting along with Watters and putting aside political differences, while others criticized her, questioning how she could be amicable with The Five co-host and overlook his controversial remarks.

In the Room Media founder Skye Ostreicher commented, “Yes. Let’s normalize GETTING ALONG.” A fan wrote, “I think it’s great!!! Two people had a great time together and didn’t put their political beliefs in front of a friendship or flight home! That’s the way it should be!”

Meanwhile, Al Jazeera presenter Mehdi Hasan warned King that her selfie with Watters could tarnish her reputation due to Watters’ anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian statements. He wrote, “Gayle, he’s a horrible anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian bigot. This isn’t a good look for you.”

A fan wrote, “Really Gayle… I’m sure he will talk on Fox later about how you’re a DEI hire. What world are you in lady?”

Musician Gene Taylor also questioned King’s decision to share the photo. He asked, “Why would you even post this?”

King’s post comes a few months after the New York Post reported that her future at CBS was uncertain under the network’s new owners, Skydance Media, who aimed to root out left-wing bias. According to the outlet, the 70-year-old signed a $13–15 million contract extension that runs through May 2026.
