Gayle King Discusses CBS Mornings Exit Rumors Yet Again

Gayle King isn’t letting the rumor mill run the show. With CBS News going through changes and everyone curious about what she’ll do next, she’s staying calm and in control of the narrative. At recent events, King made it clear she’s focused on the job right now, even as contract questions cast a shadow on her future on CBS Mornings.

When Gayle King was stopped on the Golden Globes red carpet and asked point-blank about her future at CBS, she kept things polite but tightly zipped. Chatting with Variety’s Marc Malkin during the pre-show, she made it clear this wasn’t the moment for big reveals. She shut down any speculation with a calm smile, saying she wasn’t making announcements and promising that updates would come later. “Well, I’m certainly not going to make any announcement here…“We will keep you posted,” King said ( via Variety).

Naturally, that vague-but-careful answer only got people talking more. Her comments land at a time when CBS News is clearly in shuffle. The network is undergoing internal changes under new editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, with shifts occurring both behind the scenes and on air. Through it all, King has been the steady anchor in the storm. She’s been part of the morning show since January 2012, weathering cast changes and staying put as CBS This Morning eventually evolved into CBS Mornings.

With her contract set to wrap up in May 2026, the rumor mill has only grown louder. Still, King hasn’t shied away from shutting things down when needed. Back in December 2025, during an appearance on Sherri, she directly addressed the chatter about her leaving CBS Mornings. “I’ve decided I’m going to stay out of the drama — and there is some drama. I’m just going to continue to do my job,” King explained (via CBS Mornings).

King also pointed out that what gets reported publicly doesn’t always line up with what’s actually happening behind the scenes. She said the message inside the building can be very different from the stories floating around outside. At times, she added, she’ll read headlines about herself and immediately know they’re off the mark (via USA Today).
