Queen Camilla is reportedly resisting the idea of welcoming Prince Harry and Meghan Markle back into the royal family. According to palace sources, the Queen wants to limit contact with the “Spare” author. Her goal, according to an insider, is to avoid mixed signals about the couple’s place in the family.
Queen Camilla thinks it’s ‘lunacy’ to let Prince Harry and Meghan Markle cross royal threshold, says source
Insiders exclusively spoke to National Examiner about Queen Camilla’s intentions for reconciling with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. A source told the tabloid, “Camilla thinks it’s lunacy to let them across the royal threshold,” adding that she has voiced that view directly to King Charles III. In September, the king held a 54-minute meeting with Harry “against her better judgment.” This, according to the insider, resulted in “a lot of heated discussion.”
The source added that though Camilla is not looking for confrontation with the Sussexes, she is “strategizing with courtiers about how to keep them at arm’s length.”
According to the insider, the Queen wants to ensure Harry and Markle “don’t get the red carpet treatment” and that there’s no suggestion they’re being welcomed back as working royals.
Moreover, Camilla is preparing to guide the messaging. The plan, per the source, is to have aides “brief everyone they can — including the press, of course — that it’s a token olive branch and nothing more.”
All in all, according to the sources, Camilla’s approach with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is about civil contact, but it does not guarantee an open door. While King Charles may be open to improving relations with his son, the Queen aims to set limits around what that looks like in reality.
This may mean that any meeting with the Sussexes would be short and formal. Whether that stance softens if Prince Harry returns with Markle and the children is a matter for the future, but the message from Camilla’s team is clear: a full welcome is not on the table.
