Taylor Swift might have upset her bestie Ed Sheeran by releasing her new album too close to Sheeran’s “Play.” Swift released “The Life of a Showgirl” on October 3, just weeks after Sheeran’s album, and insiders claim that the “Photograph” hitmaker did not know about it. Hence, the timing hurt his rollout as Swift’s album quickly took the top spot.

Taylor Swift starred on the “New Heights” podcast in August, announcing her new album, but she reportedly ended up hurting her bestie Ed Sheeran in the process. The Daily Mail exclusively reported that this, in turn, affected their once easy bond.

A music industry insider told the tabloid, “Ed takes these things really seriously, and carefully plans his album releases,” adding that he “announced his album with four months’ notice, but then Taylor announced hers for just two weeks after.” The insider continued: “It is not the first time that Taylor has done something like this. She’s got form.”

Upon its release, Sheeran’s “Play” debuted at no. 1. Soon, it slipped out of the top ten, while Swift’s record led the charts, which, the Daily Mail noted, was not a first. She released multiple variants of “The Tortured Poets Department” in the U.K., the same week that Charli XCX put out “Brat.” Moreover, flurry versions of her album helped keep her ahead of Billie Eilish in the U.S.

Taylor Swift and her bestie Ed Sheeran have been close for more than a decade, collaborating on various songs. Notably, the two have often called each other family. They first teamed up on “Everything Has Changed” for Swift’s “Red” album, later collaborating on various tracks, including “Run (Taylor’s Version),” “The Joker And the Queen,” and more famously, “End Game.”

A source also mentioned that the pair last met at Selena Gomez’s wedding on September 27. Though both gave speeches, the topic of Swift’s album’s release date had not come up.
